Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets complete health care needs.

Ultrasound: RBAH announces the addition of ultrasound to our state of the art clinic. Many people are familiar with the practice of ultrasonography because of its frequent use in pre-natal and pregnancy exams, but this non-invasive procedure can also be used in a wide range of applications. Ultrasound works by sending high frequency sound waves from a transducer or probe throughout the body. These completely harmless sound waves then bounce back to the machine and an image is produced on-screen. It allows a 3 dimensional picture of your pet's organs. While ultrasound is most commonly used to evaluate the structures in the abdomen, we can also use it to examine your pet's heart (an "echocardiogram"). Some of the normal dynamic processes we can see with ultrasound are blood flow, GI and heart contractions. We also have the ability to visualize abnormal processes such as tumors or organ enlargements. We can even use ultrasound to obtain liquid or cellular specimens from various organs such as the bladder, spleen, liver, and the eye.

Our Pulse Oximeter allows us to continually monitor heartrates, EKG
tracings (rate and rhythm), blood pressure readings, body temperature and spO2 values during surgical
procedures. These values can be saved on a computer for trends analysis and subsequently printed out.
Our In-House Laboratory facilities include the Heska CBC-Diff Hematology System which allows us to analyze red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The Idexx VetTest and the Heska SpotChem are used to measure serum chemistries (such as kidney and liver values, and glucose levels). Our Idexx VetLyte measures electrolyte levels in the blood (sodium, potassium, and chloride). Our centrifuges are used to spin down blood and urine. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized tests such as Hemobartonella, Toxoplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever serologies which cannot be performed in-house. The results of these tests are often available online and can be downloaded directly into your pet's medical record.

Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We perform routine x-rays as well as gastrointestinal barium series and intravenous pyelograms (dye studies of the kidney). We can also send them to specialists if required for consultation.

Oncology Services:
Surgery and chemotherapy are offered at RBAH because they are important mainstays in cancer fighting strategies. Treatments and follow-ups from referral and specialty centers are also welcome. It's important to us that you be provided the convenience of staying close to home while equipping your pet with the necessary protocol to fight cancer.

Emergency and Critical Care Services: In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is backed up by our mobile resuscitation unit, stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours. In addition, we use the services of the after-hours Chattanooga Emergency Animal Clinic since emergencies do not always follow a 9 am to 5 pm schedule.

Ophthalmic Equipment: We use various types of ophthalmic equipment to check and monitor the health of your pets eyes. For general eye exams we use an ophthalmoscope. But to check ocular pressures, we must use either the Tonopen or the Schiotz Tonometer. Having this information quickly available to us allows better treatment for your pet, and often enables us to diagnose eye diseases before loss of vision occurs.

Microscopes: We have two different microscopes which are used for examimations of tissue biopsies, cytologies, urine and blood samples, and intestinal parasite screenings.
Hospice / Euthanasia Services:
Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is difficult and painful. We work with clients to ensure their pet's comfort and dignity, and strive to make this difficult situation as easy as possible. We also offer burial and cremation services through Pet Haven Crematory or Constant Companion Cremation Services.
